What APC Must Do to Win in 2027
Author: Mr. Mark Omogo
As Nigeria approaches another defining election cycle in 2027, the All-Progressives Congress (APC) must recognize that the game has changed. The traditional tactics of vote-buying and last-minute noise no longer guarantee victory. Today’s voters, especially the youth, are demanding more: credibility, connection, and clear results.
- Move From Vote Buying to Vote Canvassing
APC must prioritize direct voter engagement over cash inducement. Door-to-door canvassing, local town halls, and volunteer mobilization are far more effective in building trust and turnout. Nigerians want to be heard, not bought.
- Enforce Internal Discipline
A party without discipline loses credibility. APC must uphold internal democracy, field credible candidates, and ensure campaign rules are strictly followed. The days of imposition and impunity are numbered.
- Focus on Tangible Achievements
Campaigns should be built around what has been delivered. Infrastructure, social programs, job creation, and security reforms must be clearly communicated with facts and local relevance.
- Engage the Youth Genuinely
With over 60% of voters under 35, APC must go beyond lip service. Involve youth in campaign strategy, messaging, and policymaking. Empower them as candidates, not just crowd-pullers.
- Simplify Voter Registration and Turnout
APC should lead advocacy for accessible voter registration and PVC collection. Community-based sensitization, digital reminders, and transport support to polling units can boost turnout significantly.
- Build Broad-Based Coalitions
No party wins alone. APC must strengthen alliances with civil society, religious leaders, women’s groups, and grassroots influencers. These relationships matter more than election day rallies.
Conclusion:
To win in 2027, APC must modernize its playbook. The battle will not be won by money, but by message, mobilization, and momentum. It’s time to shift from politics of transaction to politics of transformation.
